NEO $499/month Subscription vs $20,000 Early Access: Which Makes Sense?

Product photo: 1X Technologies press materials, used for editorial review purposes.

The two options

The manufacturer offers NEO under two plans. Standard is a $499 per month subscription that includes a starter productivity package and standard delivery. Early Access is a $20,000 purchase that gives you ownership, a 3-year warranty, premium support and priority delivery. Both are reserved with a $200 deposit that is fully refundable until your robot is ready to ship.

Break-even

Months of subscriptionTotal paidvs. $20,000 purchase
12$5,988-$14,012
24$11,976-$8,024
36$17,964-$2,036
40$19,960≈ break-even
48$23,952+$3,952
60$29,940+$9,940

Ownership is cheaper once you pass roughly 40 months. That assumes the subscription price never changes and ignores the value of any hardware upgrades or replacements a subscription might include — details that have not been fully published yet.

Arguments for the subscription

Arguments for Early Access

The deposit

Both plans start with $200 due today. The manufacturer states the deposit is fully refundable up to the point that your NEO is ready for delivery. In practice that means you can reserve a place now and decide later, once reviews of shipped units are available. That is the single most consumer-friendly part of the offer and it is why we don't discourage enthusiasts from pre-ordering.

Our recommendation

For most households: subscribe first, decide about ownership later, once you have seen the robot work in your own home. For early adopters who are confident and want the earliest delivery: Early Access.
